‘’What ought to be included in a common declaration and how ought the parties act to to maintain healthy and sustainable negotiations in order to reach early and comprehensive solution to Cyprus problem’’

Dear Ambassador, Dear Delegates, Dear participants,

We strongly believe that a comprehensive settlement for the Cyprus issue could be achieved. With collective work and mutual trust and understanding, we believe that Cypriots could successively achieve an early settlement within a context of a real, pragmatic federation. Our priority remains the reunification of our homeland and the creation of conditions which will allow Cypriots, both Greek and Turkish, to live together peacefully within a modern European state which will allow prosperity and a creative future.
In order to reach a viable and comprehensive settlement, both communities should work sincerely in order to reduce the distance they have in regards to their disagreements. Only then, the different demands could be bridged.
At the moment, we need a clear, common declaration without ambiguities or omissions. The declaration could then become the basis of the forthcoming solution. At the same time, on our way to reunification, we need a targeted policy and strategic planning.

Dear participants,
Cyprus is a full member state of the EU for almost 10 years now and any settlement of the Cyprus issue should be in compliance with EU’s values, principles and community acquis.
Certainly, we aim that any potential solution must include the following key principles, which are also included into United Nations’ Security Council Resolution 1251: single sovereignty, single international personality and single citizenship, with the island’s independence and territorial integrity safeguarded, and comprising of two politically equal communities as described in the relevant Security Council resolutions, in a bi-communal and bi-zonal federation that would exclude any grey zones and vague wording. With the European values and principles incorporated in the right solution of the Cyprus issue, human rights and EU’s community acquis would be granted for all Cypriots citizens.
A divided island cannot seize the opportunities its people deserve, cannot meet the expectations of the new generation and cannot deal adequately with new major contemporary challenges in a global world.
Let’s build together the future of the younger generations. A unified country will multiply its economic capacity. A just and viable solution, along with security, will bring huge economic growth and prosperity.
